Where can my child join a chess club in Finland?
Updated August 2026
Chess for children is available in most of Finland's larger cities. Member clubs of the Finnish Chess Federation run junior sections — usually one affordable weekly training evening — and the capital region also has more professional chess schools. Clubs exist in at least Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti and Oulu.
What junior chess costs
A club's junior season is typically inexpensive (often €0–140 per season) because it is largely volunteer-run. Commercial chess schools cost more but teach more intensively. No prior experience is needed to start.
